ABOUT THE EVENT

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Juneteenth (officially Juneteenth National Independence Day) is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Its name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it is celebrated on the anniversary of June 19, 1865. Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. Originating in Galveston, Juneteenth has since been observed annually in various parts of the United States, often broadly celebrating African-American culture.

Juneteenth festivals in Texas often include parades, live music performances, guest speakers, food vendors offering traditional African American cuisine, arts and crafts vendors, educational activities, and more. These festivals are a time for communities to come together to remember the struggles of the past, celebrate freedom and unity, and promote African American heritage and culture.

If you are looking to attend a Juneteenth festival in Texas, be sure to check out our local event listings, community websites, and social media for details on dates, locations, and activities. It can be a wonderful opportunity to participate in a meaningful and joyful celebration of freedom and equality.
